Republican Alison Couch led Democrat Cambrey Wood for commission chair, 36,643 to 30,322, a 6,321-vote margin. In District 1, Republican Alex Griffin led Democrat Michael A. Jordan, 11,414 to 6,624.

The homeowner measure had 56,679 yes votes and 8,314 no votes, roughly 87% support.

The official sample ballot describes the proposal as a local homeowner’s incentive adjustment program under House Bill 439, intended to reduce the tax burden on qualified homesteads. That ballot language does not promise a particular dollar reduction for an individual homeowner.

Two other local contests appeared on the November ballot. The county results showed Republican Natalie Paine, the only named candidate for district attorney of the Columbia Judicial Circuit, with 51,624 votes. John Paul Richardson had 50,220 votes for Columbia County Soil and Water Conservation District supervisor.

The sample ballot listed Richardson alone by name in the supervisor contest but instructed voters to select three, with write-in spaces also available. The returns reviewed did not identify additional supervisor candidates or establish the disposition of those other seats.

All precincts reporting is not the same as certified results. The county’s unofficial designation remains in place pending certification.
