Augusta, GA –

The GCG Newsroom has launched a new YouTube channel as part of our effort to expand how we deliver local news and give readers more direct access to the stories shaping our community.

The channel already includes extensive video coverage of the ongoing Janell Carwell murder trial, with recordings from court proceedings as the case unfolds. Those videos will also be embedded directly into our articles, allowing readers to watch the proceedings while following along with our written reporting and in-depth analysis of what’s happening in the courtroom.

For complex cases like this trial, video allows readers to see and hear the testimony themselves, while our reporting helps explain the legal arguments, key moments, and why they matter.

Looking ahead, the channel will also feature interviews with local candidates running for political office, giving voters an opportunity to hear directly from the people asking for their vote. These interviews will be published alongside written coverage that breaks down the issues, policy positions, and implications for local residents.

We also plan to post coverage of local government meetings, major community stories, and occasional behind-the-scenes looks at how reporting happens inside a small local newsroom.

Because this is new for us, some videos may still be a little rough around the edges. We’re learning the technology, experimenting with formats, and figuring out what works best as we go.

But the goal is simple: make local journalism more transparent, accessible, and easier for the community to follow.

We’ll keep building and improving the channel as we go — and we appreciate everyone who follows along as we grow it.
